Today we did a new try on going to the coffeehouse – which we planned to do last week – when Dude at the end had to work instead. But today we went. The weather was a little bit unstable.. raining and windy.. But we decided to not postpone it for another week. We aren’t going out like that a lot.. We would like to do it more but are usually too busy with kids, work, studies etc.
But then boooooom! Lightning struck… just when we were in the line to order our coffee and salmon sandwich. And some main transformer for Ma’ale Adumim broke.. so we ended up having a blackout for 6,5 hours. So no coffee… We had nothing to do but going home again. New try next week..
With a bunch of candles, gas stove, and the kids playing with flashlights.. we ended up having quite a nice – and different afternoon. The kids get more involved with how to make guaccamole if you make it on the table with candles next to you in order to see what you are doing. It’s somehow more interesting that way.
The weather report predicts scattered showers and thunderstorms for three days now.. yeay!!
E (the boy) is starting to show interest for the piano.. We are thinking of starting to teach him some.. My husband will teach him some theory and I will teach him to improvise and play some easy songs.. I think we’ll start with twinkle twinkle little star or something.

We got two tortoises yesterday!!
We got them from friends of my parents.. Their tortoises happen to know the art of reproduction a little too well.. So here they are.. living in our garden. They look quite big but they aren’t bigger than a couple of inches..

I don’t even know why I care.. when it comes to translations..
There are lots of words and expressions that you can’t just translate and that’s it.. it wouldn’t be understandable, or it would even be pervert.. or whatever..
During the Gaza war I went one day to copy the key to the bomb shelter so that all families in this building would have their own key.. so I went to the place where they do it.. and asked them to copy it – using the same word in Hebrew as you use when you are talking about a copy-machine. I was aware that was probably not the right word.. but whatever.
The guy looked at me.. smiled and said. “What? Do you want me to copy it? Put it in the copy machine?” I just love that kind of reaction..
and he got to teach me the right word for it.
I love the fact that languages are different.. Here’s another example..
In Swedish – when talking about electric plugs and sockets you say the plug is male and the socket is female.. That’s the easiest way to explain which one you mean.. turns out not everybody is as pervert as the Swedes when talking about these thingies in other languages. Wuups..
So.. it doesn’t even matter if I know better.. I am going to continue making this kind of translations of words and expressions. I mean – why not?

Yesterday I put up curtains in the living room. Yeay me! We’ve been living here for more than half a year without.. I know it sounds strange.. I know in Sweden it would be out of question to not have curtains.. I don’t know about the States. But here in Israel it is really not a big deal. Many people live without curtains in their home. It is nice to have them – but nobody would miss them if you don’t have them
I like curtains.. and prefer to have them!! I just had to get my ass out from the stroller (I don’t know if it is ok to say so even.. I just translated from Swedish) and fix it.. and now it’s done!!

Good news today!
President Shimon Peres announced today that Binyamin Netanyahu now has 28 days to form a coalition and could receive two additional weeks if he needs them. Read here Yeay! Just what we hoped for!
And thank God it’s finally raining.. and is supposed to rain a lot for like a week!! Notice the headline to the article An answer to prayers. I bet you’d never see that in a regular Swedish newspaper.. Welcome to Israel!
Shabat Shalom!

Seems like this time the light in the end of the tunnel was sunlight… and NO TRAIN!!
The kids went back to school today – after almost an entire month home sick.. We are back to routine!! Though it will probably take me a few days to recover.. I’m sooo tired.
…when talking about sun..
We are expecting a winter storm on Friday.. badly needed. Myself I don’t like rain.. not my selfish me.. because I don’t like the humidity and the cold. But I can’t wait – because we need the rain – so it actually makes me happy..
The situation is really bad.. look.. “However, it will take half a dozen more storms before Israelis can count on watering gardens and washing cars at will this summer.” Arutz 7 (half a dozen more storms… will probably not happen. We are almost at the end of February.. and March means spring..)
“The Kinneret, Israel’s largest non-underground water reservoir, is at the lowest level since 2001 while demand has risen.”(source)

…to a couple of websites I found about Why you should use organic cotton and Why our lifestyle is so dangerous for the environment. Did you know that cotton uses approximately 25% of the world’s insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides? Think about it.. Is it really worth it – for our nature – that you have 52 t-shirts… ?T-shirts that you end up throwing away because you are tired of them – not because they are worn out…
One of the ways to stop global warming – is to stop buying so much stuff that we don’t need!!!
So.. that would mean that the financial crisis helps the environment??
Seriously.. I have no idea what I’m talking about.. I’m just tired.. and bumped into this.. But I still mean it.. ok?
Sorry..

Today I spent half the day trying to find a word in Swedish.. a word that is just gone.. A word that I apparently only know in Hebrew nowadays. It is annoying.. but what can I expect..? I don’t hear much Swedish to be honest.. and what I hear is our internal Swedish that we speak within the family.. great risk we do the same mistakes all of us.. and one day we will all speak Hebredish and nobody will understand what we say. Yeay us!

Last Thursday Spiderman jumped on cars in Rosh haAyin, Israel.
He also threw ropes at the cars and tried to stop them. Though poor Spiderman ended up in the hospital for psychiatric treatment.

Yesterday.. I got the opportunity to go out for a long walk all alone.. That doesn’t happen a lot. I have been stuck at home for a month now.. only able to go out for some quick badly needed errands. As I have told before – the kids have been sick a lot lately. I have been a more frequent visitor at the doctor’s – than at the grocery store. Yeay me!
Anyway.. yesterday I went out for like 1,5 hours.. The weather was wonderful.. and I realized how beautiful everything is.. and that you see a lot more when you aren’t pushing a heavy stroller in front of you.. and when you have no kids to look after.
This IS a beautiful place..
